Testing Room

Also known as 'the lab', in here we can provide multiple setups depending on what you need or the type of study to be carried out. We use Techsmith's Morae in the lab - the most advanced and feature-rich software on the market which will record everything on-screen with picture-in-picture video and sound; whilst being simultaneously viewable from the observation room, including real-time Digital Video stream.

Typical ways the lab is used include:

  • Pre-defined test sessions: 1 test participant + 1 facilitator
  • Unscripted/Free-play testing: 1-5 test participants + optional facilitator

The lab has been designed to help replicate the most common real-life scenarios, so testers can use a mix of PC's & Macs, Multiple screen resolutions & sizes, Laptops and Netbooks. We also have multiple input devices in both wired and wireless forms - standard/ergonomic keyboards, different mouse styles, laptop trackpads and intellipoint. Testing your project with a mix of technology can help to identify problems you might not have otherwise noticed - like how much more frustrating it is to scroll on a laptop, or how limited the view is on a netbook.

Observation Room

The main observation room is a spacious and modern environment where you and up to 8 of your colleagues can monitor the testing lab activity in real time.

On the large 42" plasma screen, you can watch the users screen or live video of what's happening in the room. There is also a whiteboard should you need it.

Break out area

Opposite the observation room is the break out area, where you can chill on the sofas, have an informal meeting and have some light refreshments or a fully catered lunch (just let us know which you'd prefer).

The space is also perfect for focus groups, workshops and user briefings.

Usability lab hire costs

The lab is less busy over the summer and so you can hire it for just £400 + VAT for a full day or £250 + VAT for a half day between June - September

The cost of hiring the lab (all 3 rooms above) is £600 + VAT for a full day or £400 + VAT for a half day (in case you need to split your tests and participants).

The lab can be hired between 08:00 - 18:00, although evenings and weekend hire is also available for a 20% surcharge to cover security.
